Man, as a result of the fall has so drastically been infected by sin that it affects every part of his being. Man now hates God and will not turn to Him because man is so enslaved to wickedness. His will is so bound to sin that everything he does is motived by and results in sin.

Now God would have been perfectly just to leave all of humanity in this state and condemn them all to eternal punishment and separation from His goodness, but He sovereignly chose to impart grace and mercy upon part of humanity and give them to His Son as a bride, all to His glory.

So, in order to declare these men just, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to live a perfect life and die, on behalf of all those whom He had chosen for salvation, taking upon Himself the wrath and punishment that belonged to the chosen ones.

Now, the Holy Spirit draws these men unto God, regenerating them and giving them the gifts of faith and repentance. He changes them and turns their hearts to God and applies to them the benefits of the sacrifice of Christ.

And, these whom God has chosen, justified, and regenerated will be kept safely in His hands until the day when they are taken away to the glorious presence of God. They will struggle, stumble, and be discouraged, but God will not lose any of them and will uphold them with His mighty hand.
